John Legend to co-produce film adaptation of New York Times bestseller Long Way Down

John Shearer/Getty Images via ABCJohn Legend is jumping aboard as one of the producers for the forthcoming film Long Way Down, according to Variety

The movie is an adaptation of Jason Reynolds‘ New York Times bestseller young adult book of the same name, which tells the story of a fifteen-year-old boy who questions whether he should exact revenge on the person who killed his brother. 

Legend will produce Long Way Down via his Get Lifted Film Company production shingle, along with Oscar-nominated producer-screenwriter Michael De Luca, co-producer of films including The Social NetworkCaptain Phillips and Moneyball.

Legend’s no stranger to film production.   

He’s credited as one of the executive producers of the Oscar winning movie La La Land and the Barack and Michelle Obama-centered romantic drama Southside with You

He’s also listed as one of the executive producers of the upcoming dramatic film Monster, based on Walter Dean Myers‘ young adult novel.
