by

Grace PickeringKhalid has continued to gift fans with new music, by dropping off his latest effort “Self.”

The introspective single finds the 21-year-old crooning about his inner demons, as he reflects on his life and inevitable death.

“It’s gettin’ hard for me to breathe / ’Cause the man that I’ve been runnin’ from is inside of me,” Khalid sings over the piano-laced production.

“Self” is set appear on Khalid’s forthcoming sophomore album, Free Spirit, due April 5. The project is the follow-up to his smash 2017 debut American Teen, which features his breakout single “Location.”

Khalid will support Free Spirit with a run of April TV spots: The Tonight Show on the 4th, ABC’s Good Morning America on the 5th and the 54th Academy of Country Music Awards on the 7th.

On April 3rd, the vocalist will premiere a Free Spirit companion film in theaters worldwide, which will double as an album listening party.
