Columbia RecordsLaura Mvula has announced that her sophomore album, The Dreaming Room will be released June 17th on Columbia Records.
Mvula’s latest album follows the success of her critically acclaimed debut album, Sing to the Moon, which was released in 2013.
In preparation for the new release, the singer has dropped an exclusive track from The Dreaming Room entitled “Phenomenal Woman” that reflects the “1970s style gospel funk” that follows the poem of the same name by Maya Angelou. You can listen to “Phenomenal Woman” now on YouTube.
In a statement from the label, Mvula reveals she’s written “a beast of an album” that she never knew she would be able to do. “This is the hardest I’ve worked on anything,” she says. “I’ve grown up — by taking the music more seriously, I take myself less so. When I listen to this music I feel whole. I feel so at home in myself. I feel comfortable.”
