Lauryn Hill’s Rep Reveals Why She Didn’t Perform with The Weeknd at the Grammys

Theo Wargo/Getty Images for CBGBRihanna wasn’t the only no-show performer fans were hoping to see during Monday night’s Grammys. Lauryn Hill was rumored to join The Weeknd for a performance, but their duet never occurred.

So why didn’t the eight-time Grammy winner appear? “The Grammys announced a performance by Ms. Lauryn Hill prematurely and without approval,” Hill’s rep tells Billboard. “Ms. Hill had concerts all weekend, leaving no time to prepare, and was uncertain she would even be able to make it to L.A. in time to rehearse for the event.”

Her rep adds that the show was never actually confirmed: “Any performance that could have happened was never confirmed, and should not have been advertised as such.  Ms. Hill was invited to do a collaboration with an artist she appreciates. The performance was intended to be a surprise and unfortunately due to its last minute nature, was unable to come to fruition.”

In case you missed it, The Weeknd’s Grammy performance included “Can’t Feel My Face” and “In the Night,” both lifted from his Grammy-winning album, Beauty Behind the Madness.
