by

ABC/Randy HolmesIt’s now official: Don Cheadle has joined the all-star line-up of LeBron James‘ Space Jam 2.

Following reports last week, James confirmed the news in a new tweet, and shared his excitement.

“We’re actually shooting scene together right now!,” he wrote. “Ha. #Legend #SpaceJam2.”  The NBA star also added a bunny, carrot, basketball, crown and filming emjoi to his message.

The news comes after James recently celebrated the start of production on the film.

“Man this really just hit me!” James tweeted. “I’m really shooting Space Jam 2!! This is so surreal and doesn’t even make sense to me! Where I come from man and what I saw growing up this doesn’t add up to me! I’m truly grateful and beyond blessed. This is CRAZINESS.”

Cheadle joins Star Trek: Discovery star Sonequa Martin-Green, who has been cast as LeBron’s wife, in the cast.

As previously reported, Random Acts of Flyness creator Terence Nance will serve as the film’s director, with Black Panther director Ryan Coogler producing. This will be Coogler’s first project since directing the Marvel blockbuster.

The first Space Jam, released in 1996, starred Michael Jordan and quickly became a big box office hit, grossing over $230 million worldwide.

Space Jam 2 is set to hit theaters on July 16, 2021.
