“Selena was interesting for me because she had that kind of delusional, mental issue kind of thing that she had going on after the big situation, the plot twist that happened at the end, which I’m sure after seeing it you know exactly what I’m talking about,” she says. “And that was something different for me and I think that is why I wanted to play this character so bad.” Toya adds, “I love a wedding film. I get excited about it.”

Speaking of weddings, LeToya wouldn’t confirm whispers that during New Year’s Eve she got engaged to her boyfriend, motivational speaker Rob Hill Sr.

“I am just excited at the idea of love with my man, Rob Hill, and I look forward to our future. I do,” she says coyly. “I’m in a happy place right now, I’m just excited, I’m excited to be with someone that I truly adore and respect and who I know its a mutual thing, so I’ll just say I’m just in a happy place.”

The singer also offered advice for single women who are still holding out for their perfect guy.

“Hold out girl! Look, be patient, God is creating that man for you, you don’t want to rush that process and that’s something I had to keep telling myself,” she admits. “And you never know too. I will say this: I feel like a lot of times we get stuck in that perfect guy for us and I personally wrote out a prayer, a list to God of how I wanted my man to be, and they come in a box that you totally wouldn’t expect.”

Toya advises women to keep their options open.”They are probably nothing like that list you made, but they are everything thing you need. You might write that list of that you want, but He is going to give you everything you need.”

Luckett also hopes that everyone will learn a valuable lesson from Selena: “clear out your closet first.”

“That’s something that I could relate to as far as Selena, my character, goes, is she hadn’t properly cleaned out that closet, even when she thought she had,” Toya says. “There was some things in her past that were still holding onto her, holding her heart and in order to move on and be able to receive the love that you deserve and be open to a new relationship, you gotta let that stuff go. And even on those nights where you might get lonely, you might have to change that number. Whatever. Just stay open.”

Lucky Girl, starring Malik Yoba, Columbus Short and Empire star Serayah McNeil, is available now for purchase.
