Michael Ochs Archives/Getty ImagesThis month marks 45 years since Marvin Gaye released his landmark album, What’s Going On. The 1971 effort — which included the title track, “Mercy Mercy Me” and “Inner City Blues” — was ranked number six on Rolling Stone‘s list of the 500 Greatest Albums of All Time.

To mark the occasion, Universal Music will be unveiling some special vinyl releases. May 27 will see the release of Volume 3: 1971 — 1981, which compiles the seven studio discs that Gaye recorded for Motown during that decade. In addition to What’s Going On, it features Trouble Man, a film soundtrack from 1972; Let’s Get It On, which came out a year later and produced the chart-topping title track; Diana & Marvin, a series of duets with Diana Ross; I Want You; Here, My Dear, a double-disc album from 1978 that chronicles his divorce; and In Our Lifetime.

In addition, Universal will release a special 10-inch vinyl EP on June 24. One side will include the original mono versions of “What’s Going On” and “God is Love” while the flip will feature an unplugged “Coffeehouse Mix” of “What’s Going On,” as well as a duet version of the song with new Motown artist BJ the Chicago Kid. As BJ says, “Marvin Gaye is a huge inspiration to me. The music he graced us with gave the world a little more beauty and a lot more soul.”
