Columbia RecordsMariah Carey was already celebrating the fact that her song “All I Want for Christmas Is You” is the highest-charting holiday hit on the Billboard Hot 100 in 50 years. But on Christmas, she got yet another unexpected gift.
The website Chart Data tweeted, “‘All I Want For Christmas Is You’ has broken the global Spotify record for biggest single day (10,819,009 streams on 12/24).”
While Spotify doesn’t seem to have reported this news itself, many other outlets started doing so, citing Chart Data. Mariah saw one of the reports and responded, “Wait… What?!”
She then reposted the news on Instagram with the caption, “Such an amazing Christmas gift! THANK YOU.”
The star also documented her holiday festivities on social media, including a visit from Santa Claus, and a sleigh pulled by actual reindeer. Her Instagram Story has a picture of herself and her boyfriend, Bryan Tanaka, posting with Santa, plus more footage of Mariah’s kids, Monroe and Moroccan, playing with their presents under the tree.
