Maxwell Talks Vocal Cord Surgery, Fatherhood & Life After 45

by

These days, Gerald Maxwell Rivera, better known as simply Maxwell, continues his singing career–performing and touring–as well as taking in the joys of fatherhood.

On the upside of 45 now, and years after a vocal cord injury that left him sidelined for months, the ‘Sumpin’ Sumpin‘ singer tells BDO.org that after losing a cousin, a friend and ‘things,’ he has come to realize so many good things about people that were always really there and then so many bad things about people who really weren’t.

“When you turn 40 and when you cross a decade, God shows you the truth and you just sort of have to take it and run with it, and basically make the right choices.”

He considers the vocal cord surgery that he was forced to undergo back in 2009 “a blessing.” It helped him to understand what’s really important.  “Focus on yourself, eat right , exercise, get good sleep, take care of your family. That’s what it’s all about.”

He has a son and say that as a father, he’s loving discovering the little things in life that his offspring enjoys.

Maxwell has been romantically linked to actress, dancer, model, and a singer Julissa Bermudez for years.  No word on when of if they plan to tie the knot.
