It looks like Rihanna may have had other artists in mind before she selected Drake to contribute guest verses to her dancehall-flavored single “Work.”

According to Urban Islandz, Rihanna reached out to Vybz KartelPopcaan and Mavado to collaborate on the reggae-inspired tune. “Several songs were recorded but eventually she ended up choosing ‘Work’ which turned out to be a huge single,” sources told the publication, adding that Rihanna recorded approximately 52 songs for her latest project.

It all worked out for Drake in the end. The rapper recently expressed his gratitude for being featured on the song, which has become his second number one on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.  “Midas Touch Riri. Thank you!!!” he wrote.
