Rihanna Provides Scholarships for International Students

by

Paolo ReversiRihanna believes in the power of education, and she’s seeking new college students to pay for their tuition.

Rih Rih announced Monday a new financial aid program through her Clara Lionel Foundation. She will award scholarships ranging from $5,000 to $50,000 for students from her native Barbados, as well as from Brazil, Cuba, Haiti, Guyana, Jamaica and the United States.

“To be able to give the gift of an education is actually an honor,” Rihanna says. “Higher education will help provide perspective, opportunities and learning to a group of kids who really deserve it.  I am thrilled to be able to do this.”

Applicants must be first-time college students who have been accepted at an accredited four-year American college or university for the 2016-2017 year. Applications are now being accepted through June 10, 2016 on the foundation website, and winners will be announced by August.

Rihanna launched her Clara Lionel Foundation in 2012 in honor of her grandparents, Clara and Lionel Braithwaite. The organization funds a variety of charitable programs in health, education, arts and culture.
