Shirley Caesar; Robert EctorA handful of iconic artists will be honored by The Recording Academy during the GRAMMY Salute to Music Legends awards ceremony, taking place at New York City’s Beacon Theatre.
This year’s recipients of Special Merit awards include gospel artist Shirley Caesar, Nina Simone, Sly and the Family Stone frontman Sly Stone, jazz musician Ahmad Jamal and legendary country music star Charley Pride, who’s one of few African-Americans to have major success in that genre.
Performers at the event, which takes place Tuesday, July 11, include Grammy nominee Andra Day, who will pay tribute to Simone, and Grammy award winner Kirk Franklin, who will honor Caesar.
Additional performers will be announced at a later date. Fans can purchase tickets beginning Monday, June 5 at 11:00 a.m. ET via Ticketmaster.
The special celebration is also set to air as a part of PBS’ Great Performances Series.
