SZA says getting five Grammy nominations sounds like science fiction

by

Top Dawg Entertainment/RCA RecordsSZA has not one, but five Grammy nominations, thanks to her debut album, Ctrl

But the singer told MTV News in a recent video interview that the accomplishment “all sounds like science fiction” to her.

“Five sounds like science fiction, one sounds like science fiction. Even being considered [for a Grammy], it’s just so bizarre, it’s weirder than science. I can’t explain it,” she says.

What’s even harder for SZA to explain is the fact that she’s earned the most Grammy nods out of all the women nominated for Grammys in 2018.

She calls the occurrence, “strange.”

The recent Saturday Night Live musical guest explains, “I have so much respect for all the women that have put out music this year and… I don’t know.”

“It’s just strange. Maybe I just don’t understand how that ended up being me ’cause I definitely never envisioned it.”

SZA’s five Grammy nods are in the categories of Best New Artist, Best R&B Song, Best Rap/Sung Collaboration, Best Urban Contemporary Album and Best R&B Performance.

The 60th annual Grammy Awards will be presented January 28th at New York’s Madison Square Garden and broadcast live on CBS.
