Wearing a hoodie and affecting a piercing stare on both covers, The Weeknd, born Abel Tesfaye, talks about the inspirations behind his highly anticipated sophomore album and what fans can expect from it.
“I’ve been very intrigued by the film Amadeus,” says Tesfaye of the 1984 movie about 18th century composer Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.
“I’ll touch on my relationship with religion a little bit and how it ties into my crazy materialistic life. I’ll touch base on some recent experiences and past experiences that didn’t make the last album. It’s like a fictional book inspired by true events.”
The 26-year-old also delves into the reason behind his music madness and his plans to stick around in the industry for a long time.
“My purpose is to make exciting music, and I feel like I’ll be doing that for the rest of my life, so there’s on pressure,” he says. “Nothing is stopping me from doing what I love to do.”
