Getty ImagesDancing with the Stars alumni Tinashe and Mario will star in a live television production of the Tony Award and Pulitzer Prize-winning Broadway musical, Rent.
Brandon Victor Dixon from Power and Jesus Christ Superstar Live In Concert will also be featured in the show, which air will January 27 on Fox. His Broadway credits include Hamilton, The Color Purple, and Motown The Musical.
Tinashe, who recently competed in season 27 of Dancing with the Stars, will portray dancer Mimi Marquez, who struggles with addiction. Mario will play Benjamin Coffin III, a landlord who collects the ”rent.” He competed on Dancing with the Stars in 2008.
The cast also includes singer/actress Vanessa Hudgens, Dancing with the Stars season 25 winnerJordan Fisher and RuPaul’s Drag Race performer Valentina. The Greatest Showman star Keala Settle will be part of the ensemble and also sing the best-known Rent song “Seasons of Love.”
Rent debuted on Broadway in 1996 and ran for 12 years, winning four Tonys, including Best Musical. Set in New York City, the musical follows seven artists struggling for success.
