Japan’s Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and IOC President Thomas Bach, both agreed to postpone the 2020 Olympic Games that was due to begin on July 24th. They both agreed that the Olympic Games will begin no later than summer 2021 due to the massive spread of the coronavirus.
“In the present circumstances and based on the information provided by the WHO today (Tuesday), the IOC president and the prime minister of Japan have concluded that the Games of the XXXII Olympiad in Tokyo must be rescheduled to a date beyond 2020 but not later than summer 2021, to safeguard the health of the athletes, everybody involved in the Olympic Games and the international community.”
Although the Olympic Games may be held in 2021 they will still announce it as the 2020 Olympic Games and it will still be held in Tokyo.
The coronavirus has affected our world, from canceling the NBA then NHL, now the 2020 Summer Olympics. When will it all end is the question that everyone wants to know.
