50 Cent has tapped another theater star for his upcoming Power prequel, Power Book III: Raising Kanan.
According to Starz, Tony Award nominee Haley Kilgore will take on the role of a young Jukebox, a character first played by Anika Noni Rose in the original Power series. Unlike Rose’s maniacal portrayal, Kilgore’s young Jukebox is described as a “quick-witted, fiercely independent and strong teenage girl” who hangs with the boys and is uneasily broken. Although she’s Kanan’s confidant, Jukebox is determined to forge her own path to launch her music career by any means necessary.
Kilgore, best know for her Tony-nominated role as Ti Moune in Once on This Island on Broadway, joins previously announced cast members Patina Miller, Mekai Curtis and Omar Epps.
Power Book III: Raising Kanan is set in the 1990s and centered on the upbringing of Kanan, first played by 50 cent in the original series.
As date for Power Book III: Raising Kanan hasn’t been set.
