Simone Biles ‘Black Lives Matter’ Is The Start Of Change


World Championships gymnast Simone Biles graces the cover of the August issues of Vogue. Her iconic photo shoot happened in February and interviewed in March. Its July and the world is a different place now. Coronavirus stopped the world and the murder of George Floyd which sparked an outcry for justice. The movement compelled millions across the world take to the street sparking the largest protest in U.S. history. The Olympic champion reflects on the moment says, ‘Black Lives Matter’ protests are ‘the start of change’: ‘It’s sad it took all of this for people to listen’, “we need justice for the Black  community. Her hometown of Houston is also being hit hard by a spike in Coronavirus cases.

The AP Female Athlete of The Year for 2019 was on track to set a new record this year, winning her 25th world championship medal – now that is on hold with the Olympics bring cancelled.  Simone also used her fame to help others as a key voice in the Larry Nassar sexual abuse scandal.
