Jill Scott has released her new album Woman, which she says is a labor of love.
“Releasing an album is like putting your child out into the world. I was talking to a friend and telling her I’m hyper-emotional. It’s like being pregnant — I felt almost bipolar with these emotions,” Jill tells Billboard, ” And she said, ‘You’re giving birth to a full-grown woman. What do you expect?’ I hadn’t really thought of it like that.”
The singer also revealed her biggest struggle as a musician. “Finding the inspiration. Normally I wait for it; this time I pushed myself. I had to look inside and pick myself apart. Which is really scary, but it’s time — I’m somebody’s mother now,” she says.
Jill also discovered a new perspective while recording her latest album. “I’m more connected to me, the truest myself, than I’ve ever been,” she says.
The set, which is the follow-up to 2011’s The Light of the Sun, includes her buzz single “You Don’t Know,” and lead single “Fools Gold,” which has become her 13th top-10 Adult R&B hit.
