Boyz II Men’s Wanyá Morris Gets the Boot on Dancing with the Stars

by

ABC/Adam TaylorIt was the end of the road for Boyz II Men‘s Wanyá Morris on Monday night’s Dancing with the Stars.

The 42-year-old boy band singer and his partner pro partner Lindsay Arnold bounced back, earning perfect scores for both of their routines. However, it wasn’t enough to make up for their disappointing performance last week.

The competitors performed two routines -– a “Trio Dance,” offer each couple an opportunity to tackle the Argentine tango, the Paso Doble, the jive or the samba with a third dancer, and another with their respective partners.

Morris and Arnold were joined by Witney Carson for a Paso Doble to “Explosive,” by David Garrett and Franck Heijden and the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. Judge Carrie Ann Inaba was so happy with the performance, she actually ran over to Wanyá and hugged him. Len Goodman, acknowledging last week was a rough one for the duo, gave them a standing ovation. Bruno Tonioli declared Morris hit that Paso like an “electrifying force of nature.”

For the second round, Wanyá and Witney did a Charleston to Avicii‘s “Shame on Me.” “He’s not Twinkle Toes, he has Electric Feet,” Inaba exclaimed. Goodman declared “If natural dance talent was in the dictionary there’d be a photograph of Wanya.” Tonioli noted it was “jazzy and full of real zest.”

However, in spite the judges’ compliments and a pre-taped message from fellow Philadelphia native, actor Kevin Hart cheering him on, Morris later learned that he, along with pro football player Antonio Brown, would be going home.

Morris had no regrets though, telling ABC Radio afterwards, “I feel good. I feel awesome. I feel like I’ve accomplished a great feat…just looking like a dancer, being called dancer, despite my age.”

The three couples moving on to next week’s finals are UFC fighter Paige VanZant and Mark Ballas, Good Morning America meteorologist Ginger Zee and Valentin Chmerkovskiy, and America’s Next Top Model season-22 champ Nyle DiMarco and Peta Murgatroyd.

Dancing with the Stars continues next Monday on ABC.
