Andrew Lipovsky/NBCUsing the sampled sound of late legend Marvin Gaye‘s soundtrack number “Cleo’s Apartment,” BJ the Chicago Kid‘s newest song, “Uncle Marvin,” takes listeners on a soulful journey.
The track is just over two minutes, but gives listeners enough time to hear BJ’s love song to his special someone. “I just got one question for you/How can you do the things you do/Knowing the things you know/And turn right around and keep giving me amazing love,” he croons.
BJ was nominated this week for three Grammy awards — in the categories of Best R&B Performance, Best Traditional R&B Performance for his song “Woman’s World” and Best R&B Album for his studio project In My Mind.
