“Don’t Play with Love- The John L. Nelson Project, debuted today online and in music stores. The seven song jazz album was produced by Prince’s half sister, Sharon L. Nelson, and was recorded at Paisley Park.

The piano player passed away in 2001 at the age of 85. That year, Prince dedicated the Joni Mitchell song “A Case of U” which he recorded on his One Nite Alone… album, to his father.

John L. Nelson was born in Louisiana and moved to Minneapolis in 1948 where he began his career under the stage name he used to name his son, Prince Rogers

Nelson was credited as a songwriter on several Prince songs, including “Computer Blue” from Purple Rain, the title song of Around the World in a Day, the title tune of the movie Under the Cherry Moon, and “Scandalous!” from the Batman album.
