Black Thought is preparing to release a new album alongside El Michels Affair, a “cinematic soul” band from New York. Glorious Game is slated to drop on April 14 and will feature the just-released lead single “Grateful.”

According to a press release, Thought and El Michels Affair frontman Leon Michels met performing at charity concerts in the early 2000s. The Roots star contacted Michels during the pandemic for some new beats, and Glorious Game was eventually born.

The album will follow Black Thought’s Cheat Codes, the collaborative album he and Danger Mouse dropped back in August.

El Michels Affair’s last few albums include 2020’s Adult Themes and 2021’s Yeti Season. They previously put their spin on Bandana by Freddie Gibbs and Madlib, who they’d backed in their 2019 NPR Tiny Desk Concert.
