Deborah Joy Winans talks collaborating on new music with her brother Juan Winans

Courtesy of Deborah Joy WinansSinging comes naturally for Deborah Joy Winans, even though acting is truly her first love.

The Greenleaf star tells ABC Audio she’s been working on new music, including her first collaboration with her brother, gospel singer Juan Winans.

“I am working,” says Deborah. “My brother, who I love doing anything with, Juan, is working on his new album and he asked me to do a song with him. I never imagined working with him in that capacity.”

Deborah and Juan previously portrayed their legendary uncle and aunt, Bebe Winans and Cece Winans in the 2016 musicalBorn for This.

“It was so much fun sharing the stage with him as Bebe and Cece and I learned so much musically from him,” she continues. “So then for him to turn around and ask me to sing something with him, I’m like, ‘What? This is the musical all over again.'”

Deborah believes the “super fun” collaboration with her brother will speak to many in different ways.

“A lot of times we feel like we’re so alone, particularly in this pandemic, when people have had to quarantine and self isolate,” she explains. “But this song reminds you that you are never on your own.”

Deborah says she’s working on new material including “music that touches me, that matters to me. So there may be an EP that follows.”

In the meantime, enjoy Deborah Joy Winan’s debut single, “I Won’t Stop Breathing,” which was released last June. She recently starred in Don’t Waste Your Pretty and OWN’s Greenleaf for five seasons.
