Did Colin Kaepernick and girlfriend Nessa call out Jay Z and Beyoncé for sitting during the national anthem?

Taylor Hill/FilmMagicColin Kaepernick and his girlfriend Nessa Diab appear to have a bone to pick with Jay-Z and Beyoncé.

During the Super Bowl on Sunday, the power couple, who attend the game with their daughter Blue Ivy, were spotted sitting during the national anthem by TMZ Sports. After the video of them sitting went viral, Kaep and Diab took to Instagram Stories to seemingly share their thoughts.

“I thought we were “past kneeling” tho?,” read the caption of the reposted image, which was shared by both Kaep and Diab.

Although the two didn’t offer further explanation, the quote “past kneeling” is a reference to Jay-Z’s comments during his NFL partnership announcement in 2019.

“I think we’ve moved past kneeling and I think it’s time to go into actionable items,” he said then.

Jay’s partnership with the NFL includes co-producing the halftime show and overseeing the NFL’s social justice initiative, Inspire Change, which is devoted to education and economic advancement, police and community relations, and criminal justice reform.

However, Jay’s partnership didn’t sit well with a lot of Colin Kaepernick’s fans. Those fans felt that Jigga’s NFL partnership was also a betrayal of the former San Francisco 49ers quarterback, who hasn’t played football since he ignited the national anthem protest against racial injustice in 2016.
