Earvin ‘Magic’ Johnson and Earletha ‘Cookie’ Johnson celebrated their 28th wedding anniversary by enjoying an intimate dinner with close friends Saturday. The couple has most definitely withstood the test of time. Cookie bravely stood by her man after his much publicized revelation that he was HIV-positive in 1991.
Cookie would later write a memoir about the ordeal and her undying commitment to the former L.A. Lakers power forward.
She wrote in in the book, ‘Believing in Magic: My Story of Love, Overcoming Adversity, and Keeping the Faith‘
“He said, ‘If you want to leave, you know, I don’t blame you. It’s OK. I understand.’ Then I said, ‘Are you kidding me? No. I love you. I’m gonna stay here and help you live. I’m gonna stay here and we’re gonna beat this thing. We’re gonna figure out how to beat this thing.”
She also said that she made the vow, “Til death do us part,” she meant it.
Oooh lawwwwd, got me all teary-eyed all over again.
Hats off to a beautiful couple and a toast to many more wonderful years together.
