ABC/Randy HolmesAnother day, another fan theory about Rihanna‘s forthcoming album. This time around, however, the singer’s dedicated legion of supporters have roped Pharrell into their latest speculations.
Last week, the global star decided to troll her loyal #RihNavy by sharing an Instagram video mocking their inquiries about the long-awaited project. In the comments section of the post, Pharrell seemed to hint at the possibility of a collaboration.
“They ain’t ready,” the mega producer wrote with a separate comment of a globe emoji.
The duo previously connected on the N.E.R.D. single “Lemon” back in 2017, which reached number 36 on the Billboard Hot 100. While Pharrell’s comment could’ve simply been an indication that he’d heard Rih’s new album, some fans thought he was signaling that he’d worked on it — and they had a mixed response to the idea.
Some fans scoffed at the prospect of the pair creating music together, citing Pharrell’s contributions to Ariana Grande‘s 2018 effort Sweetener as reason for concern.
Rih’s hotly-anticipated album, possibly titled R9, is reportedly going to explore her Caribbean roots, with a strong reggae feel.
