But the singer, also known as Meelah, is striking out on her own this year with her debut solo album, which is still-untitled.

She tells ABC Radio that “there was definitely no specific timeline or reason” behind her decision to  drop the disc in 2018.

“It kind of just happened this way. I always tell everybody that it was God’s timing and not mine,” she explains. “I literally did not sit and ponder about [it and say], ‘OK. 2018. This is when I’m gonna do it.”

Before she started crafting the album, Meelah had swapped music for motherhood.

She explains, “My main focus has been my son, [Zac]. I took some time away from the [music] scene for awhile to be a mother to my child, who’s special needs. He has autism. He was just the focus for the first few years that he’d come into this world.”

She continues, “I kind of was trying to be a stay-at-home mom and I just realized that…I wasn’t fulfilled. I could have gone in many other directions creatively, but music just kept knocking on my door.”

A meeting with her ex, Musiq Soulchild, the father of her son, also played a pivotal part in the making of her album.

She says, “Musiq Soulchild approached me maybe a year or two ago about signing to his new label and being his first artist and I was just like, ‘Sure! Yeah! Why not?”

Meelah’s solo album is expected to arrive later this year.

You can listen to her teaser track, “Desert Love,” now on Soundcloud.
