Janelle Monáe and Tessa Thompson “love each other deeply”

by

JUCOEarlier this year Janelle Monáe declared she was pansexual, and now Sorry to Bother You actress Tessa Thompson says the two have feelings for each other.

In an interview with Net-A-Porter, Thompson says that she and Monáe “love each other deeply” and are “close.”  However, Thompson has since tweeted to clarify her comments, noting, “I didn’t say I was in a relationship.”

In the interview, Tessa explains, “It’s tricky, because Janelle and I are just really private people and we’re both trying to navigate how you reconcile wanting to have that privacy and space, and also wanting to use your platform and influence.”

Rumors about the two dating began after Thompson appeared in Monáe’s suggestive video for her Dirty Computer single “Pynk.” In the video, Thompson pokes her head through the legs of Monáe’s “vagina” trousers.

“I’m attracted to men and also to women,” she added. “If I bring a woman home, [or] a man, we don’t even have to have the discussion.”

Thompson continued, “That was something I was conscientious of in terms of this declaration around Janelle and myself. I want everyone else to have that freedom and support that I have from my loved one, but so many people don’t. So, do I have a responsibility to talk about that? Do I have a responsibility to say in a public space that this is my person?”

Thompson also said that if people want to speculate about their relationship, it doesn’t bother her, noting that her family has been very accepting of her bisexuality.

As previously reported, Monáe came out as pansexual in an interview with Rolling Stone in April. She later told the The Grio that not everyone around her was supportive of her revelation.

“My parents are very supportive, but I have people who I love who don’t accept it,” she said.
