Tyler Mitchell/SHOWTIMEFormer The Chi star Jason Mitchell is reportedly now at home after he was arrested and charged with felony drug and weapons possession in Mississippi.
According to the Biloxi Sun Herald, Mitchell was taken into custody shortly after an Interstate traffic stop on Wednesday afternoon where officers searched and found roughly two pounds of marijuana, along with a bag containing over a 1,000 units of ecstasy.
In a statement, local county sheriff said it appeared that Mitchell was involved in a mid-level drug operation based on the amount of drugs seized. The officers also discovered a 9 mm glock pistol with extended magazine and an AK-47 in Mitchell’s possession.
Since Mitchell had a previous felony conviction, the actor was also charged with the possession of a weapon by a convicted felon.
After being taken to the Harrison County jail, the local judge set his bond at $150,000.
However, according to TMZ, Mitchell has since been released. A rep reportedly tells the gossip site that “Jason is at home with his family right now, working on an amazing new project.”
“News stories move fast and oftentimes without all of the facts,” the rep continues. “This misunderstanding will be resolved shortly. We trust that the court systems blind justice will protect Jason’s rights and allow him to tell his story.”
For the record, Mississippi, like many states, currently has a stay-at-home order in place. It went into order on April 3 and was extended to April 27.
Mitchell has yet to speak out on his arrest.
