R. Kelly NYC concert cancelled; his brother accuses him of molesting their 14-year old cousin

Randee St. Nicholas/RCA RecordsThe R. Kelly concert scheduled for Saturday in New York City has been cancelled.

The “Bump N’ Grind” singer was set to perform at the Hulu Theater at New York City’s Madison Square Garden, but the show won’t go on.  The promoter, Victory Promotions, says the concert was canceled because Hurricane Florence has made it difficult for the production crew working on the event to travel to New York, according to Spin.

A company representative says ticket sales were not a factor in the cancellation, but a screenshot of the concert’s Ticketmaster page posted by Spin showed large sections of seats were still available.

As previously reported, when the concert was announced, there were protests due to the accusations of sexual abuse against Kelly. The venue defended the booking, saying, “MSG has a long history of not censoring performers. We believe artists have the right to rent our venues to put on their own event, and that the public then has the choice whether or not to support that event.”

The cancellation also comes one day after R. Kelly’s younger brother, Carey Kelly, accused the singer of molesting their 14-year old cousin in an interview with unWinewithTashaK.
