Ralph Tresvant shares his side of New Edition’s breakup story on ‘A Closer Look’

by

THE SONO RECORDING GROUPNew Edition member Ralph Tresvant will be the first guest on UMC’s new docu-series, A Closer Look.

As the group’s lead singer, Tresvant will open up for the first time about his hiatus from one of the most successful R&B groups of the 80s and 90s, which led to his successful career as a solo artist.

“I’ve been really private all my life,” says Tresvant in the series trailer. “It’s just time. Get ready to hold on tight. Let me show you who Ralph Trevsant really is. That’s why we’re here now, taking a closer look.”

Before the group officially broke up for the second time in 1996, New Edition mesmerized us with classic hits like “Candy Girl,” “Mr. Telephone Man,” “If It Isn’t Love” and “Can You Stand the Rain,” to name a few.

Between breakups, Tresvant tested the waters as a solo artist, releasing his self-titled debut in 1990, followed by two more solo albums, boasting hits like “Do What I Gotta Do,” “Stone Cold Gentleman” and his #1 single, “Sensitivity.”  Earlier this year, he made his solo return by teaming up with New Edition alumni Johnny Gill for his new single, “All Mine,” after previously pairing up on “Perfect” from Gill’s 2019 album, Game Changer II.

Created by Unsung‘s award-winning producer Issac Taylor, A Closer Look features intimate interviews with legendary artists as they look back on their greatest success stories and open up about their most difficult moments.

Ralph Tresvant’s A Closer Look episode airs Thursday, Nov. 5th on UMC network’s online streaming service, which is accessible via Amazon Prime video.
