After Jay-Z put an end to the viral dinner with Jay or a half a million bucks debate, telling fans he’d advise taking the money, Rick Ross weighed in with a differing opinion.

“I’ma take the dinner. And I’ma tell you why,” Ross said in video posted to his Instagram Live, later shared by The Shade Room.

The MMG owner delved into a story about a time early in his career in 2008 when he had a private lunch with Jay-Z, who shared wisdom that made him lots of money later on.

Ross said that before turning in his second album, Trilla, Hov told him, “‘Rozay, versus writing to every beat you like, write to every record you could make work.'”

Ross recalled a quick story Hov told him about “Big Pimpin'” that prompted him to pivot “from writing one record to every 80 beats I like” to “writing 40 records out of every 80 beats I could make work.”

Ross said the invaluable advice took him to “another level as a writer, another level as an artist.”

He then posed a question to his 19 million followers and anyone else who might’ve contemplated the business decision: “ask yourself, are you ready to digest the knowledge or you just want to look at his watch at the table?”

While Ross considers the one-on-one with Hov priceless, the billionaire music mogul told Gayle King it’d be silly not to take the money because the knowledge is in his discography.

“Take $500,000, go buy some albums, and listen to the albums,” Jay said. “It’s all there if you piece it together and really listen to the music for the words.”
