David Vance/Entertainment OnePop legend Dionne Warwick celebrated her upcoming studio album, She’s Back, at an intimate invite-only party Wednesday at MAMO restaurant in downtown Manhattan. Warwick spent the event mingling and taking photos with guests, and also took part in a Q&A with local TV journalist Oji Obiekwe.

During the interview, Dionne explained why she decided to record a new version of the classic Burt BacharachHal David tune “What the World Needs Now Is Love” for the album, which will be released on May 10.

“We need some love in this world,” Warwick noted. “We’re living in a very chaotic time, not only here in the U.S. of A, worldwide…That’s what I’m concerned about…we have not paid attention to the fact that it’s no longer about ‘I, me, my.’ It should be about ‘us, we, all of us.’ We should care about each other, y’all.”

Dionne also talked a bit about the positive experience she had working on She’s Back with her son, Damon Elliott, who produced the album, and revealed that Brian McKnight, Krayzie Bone of Bone Thugs-N-Harmony and Kenny Lattimore all contributed to the album.

Warwick, who will be presented with a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award at May 11 ceremony, was asked how she felt about receiving the honor.

“It makes me feel very good that I’m finally being recognized for my body of work,” she said. “It’s taken a minute [for them] to recognize it, but they finally did, and I’m thrilled about it.”

Among the other celebrities spotted at the event were Valerie Simpson and Melba Moore.
