Columbia Records/Carlota GuerreroLast month, it was announced that Solange had won a Webby Award for Webby Artist of the Year, but last night in New York City, she actually received the trophy, at the 2017 Webby Awards ceremony.
In keeping with the grand tradition of Webby award winners being limited to five words in their acceptance speeches, Solange sang hers with the lyrics “I got 5 on it,” from hip hop duo Luniz’s 1995 classic hit, “I Got 5 on It.”
An Instagram video of the superstar accepting her award was taken by a reporter from the New York Post.
Solange won her Webby for using the Internet — especially via her skillfully curated Saint Heron website — “as a force for promoting community and diversity.”
She’s also been nominated for four BET awards this year, facing off against big sister Beyoncé for Best Female R&B/Pop Artist and Video of the Year.
