Social Distancing in the US until 2022 if no vaccine is found

by

A group of researchers at Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health found that if there is no vaccine found or better therapeutics become available, then there is a likelihood that social distancing could be our new normal until 2022. Social distancing has consisted of companies being closed, employees working from home, schools closed, and many more outdoor and social activities that have been apart of our society forever. “Intermittent distancing may be required into 2022 unless critical care capacity is increased substantially or a treatment or vaccine becomes available,” they wrote in their report. “Even in the event of apparent elimination, SARS-CoV-2 surveillance should be maintained since a resurgence in contagion could be possible as late as 2024.” The group also found that if restrictions are lifted too soon the virus would quickly spread back.
