Carlota GuerreroIt appears that Solange is not happy with big sister Beyoncé‘s recent Grammy snub, in which the global icon did not receive the Album of the Year award Sunday night. Instead, Adele took home the coveted trophy.
To voice her dissatisfaction, the “Don’t Touch My Hair” vocalist wrote several, now-deleted, Twitter messages on Monday following the awards show stating, “there have only been two black winners in the last 20 years for album of the year[.] there have been over 200 black artists who have performed.”
That statement, however was proven to be incorrect, as there have been four black artists in the past 20 years to win a Grammy for Album of the Year: Lauryn Hill in 1999, Outkast in 2004, Ray Charles in 2005 and Herbie Hancock in 2008.
As a suggestion to fellow artists, Solange also went on to write, “create your own committees, build your own institutions, give your friends awards, award yourself, and be the gold you wanna hold my g’s.”
Beyoncé led all nominees for this year’s 59th Annual Grammy Awards with nine nods, and won two: one for Best Urban Contemporary Album and the other for Best Music Video. Solange won her first-ever Grammy Sunday night for Best R&B Performance.
