Star actress Ryan Destiny talks about following her own destiny as a solo artist

by

Wilford Harewood/FOXBig stars like Queen LatifahLenny Kravitz, Brandy and Patti LaBelle have scored roles on Fox’s hit television series, Star

One of the show’s lead actors, Ryan Destiny, tells ABC Radio just how mind-blowing it’s been to have worked with such talent.

“It’s been surreal having these people that I kind of grew up watching and listening to on our show,” says Ryan, who plays Alexandra Crane on Star

“I would have never thought watching Queen Latifah growing up that I would be on a show with her…same for Brandy and Lenny, Patti. I’m happy about it. I’m thankful for it.”

Speaking about Latifah, who portrays a surrogate mother to Ryan’s character on the show, Ryan says the Grammy, Emmy and Golden Globe-winner is “super genuine and super down-to-earth.”

“She is just walking advice. She literally is just ‘her’…throughout her entire career she’s accomplished so much, but she’s still her… it’s just refreshing to see that [on set],” she says.

Besides finding success and working with superstars on the set of Star, Destiny is also forging a new path as a solo recording artist.

The entertainer, who auditioned for America’s Got Talent in 2011 and later performed within a now-defunct group called Love Dollhouse, says it’s been “interesting” working on her first studio project.

“Just… coming from a group and now transitioning into a solo artist…it’s been a very tricky journey,” she tells ABC Radio.

“And especially with me being on the show , I’ve tried to separate myself as much as possible without it, being, you know, like, ‘Screw Star!'”

Star airs Wednesdays at 9 p.m. ET on Fox.
