Image Group LA/ABCIn light of Friday’s highly-anticipated Black Panther premiere, it’s projected that the film’s soundtrack will debut at #1 on next week’s Billboard 200 chart.
Billboard reports that Black Panther: The Album, which is executive-produced and curated by Kendrick Lamar, could earn over 100,000 equivalent album units by the end of the week.
Should it launch at number one, the disc will be the second soundtrack to top of the chart this year.
The first soundtrack to do so in 2018 was The Greatest Showman.
Two soundtracks haven’t topped the Billboard 200 in a single year since 2015, when the honor went to four different soundtrack albums: Descendants, Pitch Perfect 2, Furious 7 and Empire: Original Soundtrack from Season 1.
The digital version of Black Panther The Album dropped February 9. Physical copies of the disc arrive in stores on February 16, the same day the film opens.
It contains appearances by artists including Kendrick, Khalid, Swae Lee, Vince Staples, Anderson .Paak, 2 Chainz, Travis Scott, Future and more.
