In an Instagram post over the weekend, a person claiming to be Jocelyn Savage announced she started a page on the Patreon paid membership platform to share her story that she was a victim of his sexual and psychological abuse.
The 24-year-old singer wrote that Kelly choked her and “[kept] me locked up like some damn animal,” according to Rolling Stone.
Now it appears that it was a fake account. Rolling Stone reports Patreon was alerted to a possible impersonation. When a person involved in the account was contacted, they weren’t able to provide proof of identification, and the account was shut down on Tuesday.
“After multiple unsuccessful attempts to verify the identity of the account holder, we closed the Patreon page allegedly associated with Joycelyn Savage due to potential impersonation,” a spokesperson for Patreon tells Rolling Stone.
A lawyer for Savage’s parents requested that the account be investigated.
“With the potential dangers facing Joycelyn and her safety, we are asking for law enforcement to get involved in determining where Joycelyn is and whom is really behind the account that detailed potential crimes,” Savage family attorney Gerald Griggs says in a tweet.
Kelly was arrested in July in Chicago and is facing trial on a 13-count indictment alleging he sexually abused underage girls in The Windy City. He also faces numerous sexual misconduct federal charges in New York and Minnesota, and a separate case in Cook County, Illinois.
