Last year, Alicia Keys launched her Empowered campaign as part of the Greater than AIDS initiative, which encourages women to work towards preventing and fighting the disease. Now, the singer is hosting a “National Watch Party and Twitter Chat” about women and HIV/AIDS in America during the airing of half-hour VH1 special called We Are Empowered.
In the upcoming documentary, Alicia sits down with five women living with HIV in the U.S. to discuss their friendship, love and strength.
“I was so moved by the strength, passion and messages of hope of the women of Empowered and I know you will be too,” said Alicia in a statement. “The power is within all of us — whether HIV positive or negative — to make a difference in this fight.”
Keys will live be tweeting throughout the broadcast, using the hashtag “#WeAreEmpowered.”
The special airs Sunday, January 19 at 8 p.m. ET on VH1. For more information, visit GreaterThan.org/empowered.
