Alicia helped establish a Music Technology curriculum at Edward R. Murrow High School in Brooklyn, New York. The school received new state of the art facilities, including a media lab and recording booths, so that children can take their music-making to the next level.

Alicia herself attended the Professional Performing Arts School in Hell’s Kitchen, Manhattan, and remembers how crucial it was to receive that kind of education.

“I’ve studied piano since I was seven years old and that’s a game changer for me, 100 percent,” she tells Billboard. “The fact that I know how to write, create and produce my own music means I don’t ever have to wait for anyone to express myself.”

Alicia first teamed up with Levi’s last year for the launch of the brand’s redesigned women’s line. You can support Levi’s Music Project by purchasing a $5 pin in the shape of a cassette.
