Celebrities and entertainers are morning the passing of Maya Angelou, who died in North Carolina at the age of 86. The groundbreaking author and poet has inspired many of them pay tribute to the woman her family described as a “warrior for equality, tolerance, and peace.”
Beyoncé celebrated Maya’s legacy by posting a handwritten copy of her poem “Still I Rise,” on Instagram, while Kelly Rowland tweeted: “God, thank you for sharing your Angel with us! Her extraordinary gift encouraged many! You will remain in our hearts forever! #weloveyouMayaAngelou.”
Rihanna recalled reading Angelou’s memoir I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings as a teenager. “She made us feel so safe, safe enough to trust her wisdom! Wisdom one can usually only acquire through experience!” Ri Ri tweeted.
Common, who worked with Maya on his song “The Dreamer,” called her his hero. “I was thinking about her lately. GOD Bless the Soul of one of my heroes. Dr Maya Angelou,” he tweeted.
