Bobbi Kristina Brown, the daughter and only child of the late Whitney Houston and rapper Bobby Brown, died Sunday. She was 22 years old.

A statement from the Houston family reads, “Bobbi Kristina Brown passed away Sunday, July 26 2015, surrounded by her family.  She is finally at peace in the arms of God.  We want to again thank everyone for their tremendous amount of love and support during these last few months.”

The official Facebook page for Whitney Houston posted a photo of the late singer holding a young Bobbi Kristina in her arms. The caption reads, “It is hard to say goodbye. On Sunday, July 26, Bobbi Kristina Brown made her transition peacefully. The family thanks everyone for their loving thoughts and prayers. As Bobbi Kristina would say: ‘The wind is behind me and the sun is in my face.'”

A tweet from longtime Houston family friend Oprah Winfrey says, simply, “Peace at last! #BobbiKristina.”

Brown, who was an aspiring actress and singer herself, was found in her bathtub by her partner, Nick Gordon, and a friend January 31 and taken to North Fulton Hospital, according to police. ABC News sources confirmed February 3 that Brown had been moved to Emory University Hospital in Atlanta.

Brown was reportedly kept in a medically induced coma for a time.  People magazine reported in late February doctors had attempted to bring Brown out of the coma, but reversed their decision after Brown began experiencing “violent seizures.”  In March, Brown was moved from Emory to a rehab facility.

In late June, Pat Houston said Bobbi Kristina had been moved to hospice care after her condition worsened. “Despite the great medical care at numerous facilities, Bobbi Kristina Brown’s condition has continued to deteriorate….She has been moved into hospice care. We thank everyone for their support and prayers. She is in God’s hands now,” Houston said in a statement.

Roswell Police Chief Rusty Grant said Sunday, “Our hearts go out to Bobbi Kristina’s family. This does remain an active investigation that we are working with the Fulton County DA on.” Additionally, a statement released by the Fulton County Medical Examiner’s Office declares Brown’s death “has been reported to the Fulton County Medical Examiner for determination of the cause, manner, and circumstances of death. Despite the long interval between her being found unresponsive and her death, an autopsy will still be necessary to further evaluate possible causes of death or contributing factors.”

On Sunday night, Houston’s cousin, legendary singer and actress Dionne Warwick, made a scheduled appearance on Bravo’s Watch What Happens Live, on which she discussed the loss of Bobbi Kristina publicly for the first time. “She was a sweetheart and she will be missed,” the 74-year-old told host Andy Cohen. “She was a good little girl, she really was.”

Warwick was asked how her family would weather the loss, and she explained, “It’s not easy that’s for sure. I think it’s because of our faith and strength in our faith. Knowing that Bobbi is…in much better hands now.”

Shortly after the initial news regarding Bobbi Kristina broke, Bobby Brown asked for privacy in the matter. “Please allow for my family to deal with this matter and give my daughter the love and support she needs at this time,” he said in a statement to ABC News.

The Houston family followed up with their own sentiments, saying, “Bobbi Kristina is fighting for her life and is surrounded by immediate family,” adding another request for privacy.

Bobbi Kristina Brown’s legendary mother, singer and actress Whitney Houston, was found unresponsive in a tub at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in California around the time of the Grammy Awards in 2012. Houston died February 11 of that year at the age of 48. It was ruled she accidentally drowned, with heart disease and cocaine use listed as contributing factors in her death.

“I’m doing as good as I possibly can,” Bobbi Kristina told Oprah Winfrey in 2012 after her mom’s death. “Just trying to keep going.  I can hear her voice and her spirit talking to me, telling me keep moving, baby. I can always feel her with me.  She humbles me. I remember what she told me, I remember what she taught me….She was a sister, a comforter. The spirit that she had — no matter where she was…she touched everyone.”

Bobbi Kristina Brown was born March 4, 1993 in Livingston, New Jersey.  She starred in the 2012 reality show The Houstons: On Our Own following her mother’s death. She also appeared on another reality show, Being Bobby Brown, in 2005 and received an acting credit for a role on the show For Better or Worse in 2012.

Brown had been vocal about her career aspirations and following in her mother’s footsteps. Last March, she tweeted to her more than 140,000 fans on Twitter that she in fact has a voice just like Houston’s. “Think about it.. She had 1babygirl, lungs and a GORGEOUS unforgettable voice .. Who do you think ONLY has HER vocal chords.. ?” she posted.

Just two days before she was found unresponsive at her home, Bobbi Kristina tweeted, “Let’s start this career up & moving OUT TO YOU ALLLL quick shall we !?!???!”

The daughter of two music stars was also in the spotlight for other reasons. In a tweet she posted in January 2014, Brown wrote that she and Gordon were “happily married.” Her reps subsequently told ABC News that she was married.

However, an attorney for Bobby Brown said in a statement February 3 of this year that Bobbi Kristina was not “and has never been married to Nick Gordon.”  Gordon was a young man Whitney Houston had taken in years before.

Brown dismissed critics who questioned her relationship with Gordon. “I’m tired of hearing people say, ‘Eww you’re engaged to your brother or if Whitney was still alive would we be together or would she approve of this.’ Let me clear up something. We aren’t even real brother and sister, nor is he my adoptive brother,” she wrote on Facebook before reportedly tying the knot.
