Due to the increase of positive Covid-19 (Coronavirus) cases in the city of Dallas that has exceeded 100 with 2 additional deaths. Dallas County Judge Clay Jenkins issued a Shelter-In-Place order requiring residents to stay in their place of residency. The order will take into effect at 11:59 p.m. on March 23rd and continues until 11:59 p.m. on April 3rd.
“This order is our best chance to flatten the curve here in Dallas County and save as many lives as possible,” Jenkins said. “It makes me sick that we’re at this point.”
This is requiring most employees to work from home, public or private gatherings of any number are prohibited, restaurants with or without drive-through can only provide take-out or delivery, and religious/worship services may only be provided through video and teleconference with a staff of 10 people or less.
“The goal of this order is never to exceed our hospital capacity and to minimize the catastrophic outcomes we’ve seen in other countries because they waited too long,” Jenkins said.
Although within the order, residents are still able to leave their place of residence only for essential activities. In order to engage in these activities, it must be a task related to their health and safety or a task for someone else health and safety. This includes going to the grocery store, visiting healthcare professionals, medical supplies or medication. Residents are also able to engage in outdoor activity, but they must comply with the social distancing requirements of maintaining a six-foot distance away from someone.
