Also on the list of national chairs are blues singer Keb’ Mo and country star Darius Rucker .

“NMAAM will tell the rich story of the development of American music from the beginning of our country’s formation up through the birth of hip-hop and beyond, Rucker tells Billboard. “I am passionate about doing everything I can to help, as are my fellow national chairs.”

He and the other performers will help to raise money for the project, which will be located in the heart of the city’s Lower Broadway.

The museum is expected to open in 2018.
