Janelle Monáe and Jill Scott are among the handful of entertainers that have been selected to perform before President Barack Obama and first lady Michelle Obama as part of the “In Performance at the White House” series.
The pair will be joined by Aretha Franklin, Patti LaBelle, Ariana Grande, Season 5 winner of The Voice Tessanne Chin and Grammy-winning rocker Melissa Etheridge with top session keyboardist Greg Phillinganes, who’s worked with everyone from Stevie wonder to Michael Jackson, serving as music director.
The upcoming event, which was designed to celebrate women of soul, will be streamed live Thursday night at 7:30 p.m. ET on the White House website. The Women of Soul: In Performance at the White House special will broadcast April 7 on PBS.
In addition to the concert, the First Lady will host a special daytime workshop for students, which will also be streamed live.
