John Legend has released a heartfelt video for his latest single “You & I (Nobody in the World),” which supports the #OperationalGirl Charity Challenge, a fundraising campaign that promotes female empowerment.
In the video, posted on Legend’s YouTube page, the singer’s wife Chrissy Teigen gazes in the mirror while getting dressed. The clip then shows women and young girls from different backgrounds all dealing with various body issues.
Legend, who appears for a nano-second, turns the spotlight on women who battle obesity, cancer and disabilities, and even face sexual identity issues — transgender actress Laverne Cox from Orange Is the New Black makes a cameo, wiping away her makeup.
“We live in a world where egregious injustices occur regularly against girls and women. We have a responsibility to take action and disrupt the conditions that allow for such tragedies to occur,” said Legend in a statement. “Through #OperationGirl we hope to amplify the voices and impact of the many organizations doing great work on behalf of girls and women.”
The song appears on Legend’s latest album, Love in the Future, available now.
