On Saturday, Kirk posted a video on Twitter, in which he addresses details behind the scornful phone conversation he had with his 32-year-old son, Kerrion Franklin

Kirk explained it was a “private family matter” that has now become public, and that hes had a “toxic” relationship with his son over the years, which he’s attempted to mend through counseling and therapy.

“Recently, my son and I had an argument that he chose to record. I felt extremely disrespected in that conversation and I lost my temper, and I said words that are not appropriate,” Kirk says. “I am sincerely sorry to all of you, I sincerely apologize.”

Franklin noted Kerrion failed to play part of the conversation that included calling the family therapist to help intervene in the matter. “I’m not perfect, I’m a human and I’m going to make mistakes, and I’m trying to get it right,” Kirk concluded. “Please keep me and my family in your prayers.”

On Monday, Kerrion shared another recording of an alleged conversation with Kirk and Rickey Smiley to bring awareness to what he calls “parental abuse.” In the recording, Kerrion alleges he was physically abused, as two men shout loudly.

“You put your hands on me in therapy and the cops were called,” said Kerrion. “If y’all were godly men yall wouldn’t be talking to me like this.”
