Lifetime moves the Clark Sisters biopic ‘First Ladies Of Gospel’ to April

Courtesy of LifetimeFans will have to wait a little bit longer to see the highly anticipated Clark Sisters biopic.

Originally set to air in January 2020, The Clark Sisters: First Ladies Of Gospel will now air Sunday, April 12, 2020, after Lifetime pushed the the date back.

In the latest trailer for the highly anticipated biopic, Kelly Rowland explains how the legendary gospel group had impacted not only gospel music, but the entire music world.

“The music, their voices inspired me in a way that is just so deeply embedded and woven into the artist that I am today, for sure,” Rowland says in part in the new promo. “They broke down barriers as far as sound is concerned, as far as style was concerned.”

“But still, they blended with gospel that made sense for them and they made it all their own,” she continued. “No one sounds like them. Not just the gospel world– let’s make that very clear—in the music world. Twinkie was so ahead of her time. They definitely inspired artists like Destiny’s Child and so many other.”

As previously reported, the biopic will follow the early beginnings and life of the Clark Sisters — Karen Clark Sheard,  Denise Clark BradfordDorinda Clark-ColeJacky Clark-Chisholm, and Elbernita “Twinkie” Clark-Terrell — who are the highest-selling female gospel group in history.

Executive produced by Missy ElliottQueen Latifah and Mary J. Blige, the film will star Aunjanue Ellis as the mother Mattie Moss ClarkChristina Bell as Twinkie, Kierra Sheard as Karen, Sheléa Frazier as Dorinda, Raven Goodwin as Denise, and Angela Birchettas as Jacky.
